air." that's what we're dishing about. good morning. it is friday, february 1st. start of a new month. we've had these warm temperatures and now we're back to where we're supposed to be. i'm sarah simmons. >> i'm wisdom martin. let's get a quick check of the weather. i saw on the weather app some snowflakes. let's see if that is true.

>> yes, true. if you look out the window, you'll probably seeing the snow flying. we are talking about the potential for maybe an inch of snow. the temperatures below freezing and a little bit of moisture out there. you know what falls in that snow. you can see the radar starting to break out across the region. this is very light. not all of this touching the ground. the timing is not fantastic as it will be moving through here the next couple of hours. i think by 8:00, 9:00, most it was should be out of here. temperatures have fallen below freezing. julie will have more on the roads. i noticed they were out throwing down sand and salt. i think that most of what falls will get a chance to stick out there as temperatures are pretty cold. let's go to max 2. reagan national is reporting a temperature of 34 degrees but both dulles and bwi marshall

>> i think i saw just a couple. good morning. i'm sarah simmons. >> i'm wisdom martin. welcome to fox 5 morning news. let's check in with tucker barnes. >> yes, starting to fall across the area, very, very light. as has been the case here a couple of times this year, we've gotten these kind of storms that have slowed things down to say the least. reagan national is a funny little place. it doesn't seem to match the rest of the area ever. reagan national, 36 degrees. everybody else well below freezing. 31 at dulles. 29 at bwi marshall. with the exception of reagan national, as the flake fall to the ground, they will generally stick out there. julie will mention more on this but the guys have been hard at work out there putting down salt, that kind of thing. there is your advisory.

you can see that in effect until 10:00 this morning in close here. montgomery county, prince george's county, looks like out to loudoun county, virginia, under a winter weather advisory for up to 1 inch of snow. not going to be a big deal but the timing not great with the morning commute coming up. i haven't seen the snow yet here in northwest washington but it will start to fill in a little bit here. we'll have a period of snow between about 4:30:00 a.m. and 8:00 this morning. let me mention the winds. they are going to pick up. very windy conditions a little later with winds out of the north and west at about 25. >> i know you say 1 inch is not a big deal but people see the snow and the snowflakes falling on your map. >> it could affect the morning commute. >> could be a city shutdown in our future. >> i don't know about that.

river to rise about 8 feet higher than normal. wssc decided to open the floodgates and expect some of the gates open for a few days. a homeless woman was found dead. others were forced to relocate. >> my concern is really along the patuxent river here, there is residential. there is businesses. and the getting close to some areas and we're continuing to watch that. >> i've been watching the water levels and while they have continued to increase, the pace has slowed down. >> reporter: see officials say the rising water levels will keep the marc train commuter parking lot in laurel closed this morning. police are investigating a deadly hit and run that happened in front of the victim's home. police say 59-year-old joseph

lions was standing in the road near his house when a car hit him and drove off. neighbors say he spent a lot of time outside and often would pick up trash on the side of the road. they added that drivers often speed through the area. if you have any information that could help in this case, please call the prince william county police department. a news alert out of northeast d.c. police are searching for a suspect in a kidnapping and sexual assault. this happened yesterday around 9:00. a 16-year-old was approached from behind and forced into an older model suv. then the teen was terrific to a location nearby, groped and then was let go -- driven to a location nearby, groped and than was let go. it has now been more than 60 hours since a five-year-old boy was taken hostage and a school bus driver was shot and killed. local authorities remain on the

scene but offer very few details about the situation. neighbors have identified the captor as 65-year-old jimmy lee dikes. police say he and the boy are held up in a homemade bunker equipped with tv and electric. the boy's mother told authorities he has asperger's syndrome and adhd. investigators were able to give him medicine after dikes agreed to it. neighbors describe him as intimidating with strong anti- government views. it is secretary of state hillary clinton's last day on the job. hear her reflections on the job and the difficult job she says lies ahead, coming up scene of the accident. an explosion at an office in mexico and the death toll keeps rising. we'll have the latest as crews continue to search for victims this morning. oh!

>> i can't remember. a lot of sell -- celebrating going on down there. not sure we were concentrating. we have snow on the way. if you are a facebook fan, and you are getting snow at your house, let me know so i can report it. what has to happen here is these systems move in. they have to saturate the air. as the air starts to get saturated, it will start to reach the ground. you get the idea we'll be dealing with a period of very light snow over the next couple of hours. we'll have a cold front coming through t will bring much colder air. it will be a very chilly day. but the next couple of hours, we'll be dealing with snow falling across the area. we could be dealing with light accumulations. perhaps a coating, maybe a half inch, maybe up to an inch in a few spots as this whole little

system moves on through. let's go on to the winter weather advisory. the weather service playing it safe here and when they forecast up to an inch in an urban area during rush hour, they often issue these winter weather advisories. winter weather advisory for washington, d.c., for baltimore, for the 95 corridor here for the next couple of hours. i think the snow will wiped down by 8:00, 9:00 this morning -- will wind down by 8:00, 9:00 this morning. not looking at a lot of snow but enough to cause some problems out there on the roads. 36 in washington. 36 in quantico. we are now 32 in leonardtown. west and north of the city, any snow that flies will get a chance to stick. you get the idea here. temperature have cooled off. just a few days ago, we were 70 degrees. here is a look at our satellite- radar. you can see how weak our little impulse is. it is sliding through here. it will continue to bring us snow showers for the next

couple of hours and quickly push off to the south and east and we will be looking at clearing skies. it will be cold and windy with high temperatures only topping out in the mid-30s. a.m. snow showers. sun and wind this afternoon. accumulations up to an inch. that is sort of a worst case scenario. check out your wind again, north and west gusting to 25. 23 tonight, clear skies and cold overnight. winds lighten up and it will be chilly overnight. there is your accu-weather seven-day forecast and you can see phil kind of peeking his eyes out behind the clouds there. some snow showers return again tomorrow night and early sunday. do another round of very light accumulations here early sunday morning and then we are still a little unsettled this week with snow showers back in the forecast tuesday and wednesday as well. julie wright has the latest. on traffic. >> it he sees his shadow, he

were soldiers. the d.c. court of appeals has overturned the conviction of the man known as the georgetown cuddler. he was sentenced to 26 years. i jury convicted him for assaulting five georgetown university students. the court is overturning the ruling saying the supercourt judge who oversaw the trial allowed thomas' prior conviction to be presented to the jury. the son of jim marne will not face voter charges after all. he was caught on tape explaining how to help someone vote illegally. at the time, he was working on his father's re-election campaign. police say no charged will be filed because the people who made the video did not cooperate with the investigation. up next on fox 5 morning news. >> we've been talking about this. the ravens getting ready for the super bowl showdown. hear how the head coach says he is keeping the team phak used
